frequently asked questions
Consignment is an arrangement in which a business accepts merchandise from the seller (or consignor) and agrees to pay the seller (consignor) a set % of the sale if and when it sells.
A resale store purchases outright from a person who has items for sale. While resale may be convenient for a quick exchange, typically less money will be made on items that are purchased outright than in traditional consignment. In traditional consignment, there is no out-of-pocket risk for the business, so merchandise can be selected within a broader fashion scope AND the seller (consignor) will typically make much more money than from a "cash on the spot" business (ie, pawn shop mentality).
Gather your pre-loved designer items (women's, men's, and kid's) clothing and accessories and make an appointment with us! During your appointment, you will fill out a Consignment Agreement and we will then select merchandise we feel is a good fit for our customers. We will give you back what we can’t use, answer any questions you may have, and ask you questions about any special merchandise. We will price and display your items usually within 1-2 business days. When something sells, your earnings will be deposited into your Consigned Design Consignor Account. Your earnings may be used as store credit at any time (at any amount), or, when you accumulate at least $20 in earnings, you can request a payout check.
We accept gently-used designer items purchased with in the last 2-3 years. Items must be in good repair and free of smells, pet hairs, and stains. Don’t forget, we also accept purses, shoes, and jewelry!
Nothing is more frustrating than doing the work of cleaning out all those closets and drawers, prepping and organizing, loading up the car, and then arriving to a consignment boutique and finding out you are 8th in line, or they aren’t taking anymore that day, or they are unable to serve you. Your time is precious and ours is too. Booking an appointment ensures we are able to give you the attention and quality experience you deserve, as well as ensure that we have space ready to hang/process your things and have extra help on hand to have all things running as smooth as possible. Our goal is for you to have a great experience with us, whether shopping or consigning!
Years of experience in the consignment industry as well as current ongoing research ensures that Consigned Design is competitive with local sale pricing, online resale platforms, and end-of-season discounts. Typically, the more you pay for an item, the better (and longer!) it holds secondhand value. Our prices reflect current retail pricing of 1/3 - 1/2 of original pricing (excluding special scenarios). Items are priced based on what the market will bear.
When you have earned at least $20 or more in your Consigned Design Consignor Account, simply come by the store or call and request a check, anytime, up to 3 times a month, OR you may use any amount of your earnings as store credit at any time (don't forget, Consigned Design Consignors also get special discounts!).
As we maintain a constant shuffle of incoming merchandise, we will also purge any unsold items that are past the consignment period selling dates. Consignment items are marked 25% off (around/after 30 days), 50% (around/after 60 days), and possibly marked as clearance after that. As we need space for incoming merchandise, we will pull and donate any unsold items to various charities (if desired, you may request the tax receipt of your donated items).
You certainly could and that’s your right! But, by the time you weigh your item (was it done correctly?), calculate your packaging (did you measure it right?), take pictures, answer questions from strangers all hours of the day and night, or show up to meet strangers in dark parking lots (or just attempt to meet the ones that never show up)... why would you choose to sell online if your time and life is precious? Let us handle all of the heavy lifting for you!
